Charming country eco retreat in Umbria
with a panoramic view of Tuscany

Switch off, relax and enjoy the beauty of untouched nature

Casa Lauretana

Experience il dolce far niente in the heart of Italy, near Montepulciano, Cortona and Lake Trasimeno

The lovingly restored Umbrian farmhouse Casa Lauretana is situated in an unspoiled and beautiful region on the Tuscan border. In one direction you can be amongst the vineyards of Montepulciano and not far from the charming medieval citadel of Cortona. In the other, lies the picturesque town of Castiglione del Lago and all the many, pretty, little villages with Etruscan origins around Lake Trasimeno.

Peace and tranquility are the first sensations when arriving and looking at this breathtaking landscape around Casa Lauretana, with its rolling hills quilted with cultivated fields, tracts of vineyards, olive groves and sunflowers. Here, every single stunning sunset turns into a very colourful, unique event. Surrounded by nature you can completely switch off and regain energy.

Casa Lauretana is the perfect location not only for those who love culture and music, gourmet food and wine, but for anyone who loves the outdoors – hiking and biking, golf or sailing, bird watching or just being a bookworm.

Not only it is within easy reach from the Autostrada del sole (A1), but the central geographic position of Casa Lauretana allows expeditions in all directions. You always end up driving on beautiful winding routes, which lead you to some place of cultural interest: e.g. Chiusi, Montalcino, Pienza, Siena, Arezzo, Perugia, Gubbio, Orvieto or Assisi – all within an hour or less drive. Among the medieval paths, the palaces, the castles and the fortresses of charming villages in this area, visitors will have the chance to enjoy an atmosphere of bygone times because Umbria clings to its agricultural roots and old-time traditions, to quiet rhythms and its cultural heritage.

Casa Lauretana, built with typical Umbrian red bricks, tells you a long story. They say that in 1652 a little chapel was built right here. We know for certain that the farmhouse has been occupied for more than 300 years by agricultural laborers, farmers and cattle breeders. Guests who stay a couple of days will soon be able to feel the bond with the local people, the village of Petrignano del Lago and the whole region.

Embedded into a picture-postcard landscape, Casa Lauretana is completely isolated – and yet one can reach the centre of this quiet little town within 5-10 minutes by foot. Petrignano del Lago has a friendly bar and small corner shop where the succulent ham is being cut by hand, with love and painstaking care, in front of the customers eyes.

Enough said – come see for yourself and be prepared to fall in love!!!

The accommodation

Make yourself at home

Life at and around Casa Lauretana is simple and unpretentious, quiet, warm, familiar and in close touch with nature. There is Wifi but no television. Casa Lauretana is not the right place for those who love hustle and bustle and luxury ambience.

The tastefully furnished self-catering Apartment BELLA UMBRIA can accommodate 1-2 guests, it is situated on the ground floor and has a private entrance. You can enjoy breakfast outside on the little terrace, at a table for two, while admiring the colorful Tuscan landscape.

Apartment BELLA TOSCANA is reached by a large external stairway which leads to a beautiful loggia. This spacious self-catering accommodation is perfect for 3-4 guests who can have their meals outside on the loggia, protected from the sun by wine tendrils, and taking in the breathtaking panorama around Casa Lauretana. Both apartments are newly renovated with love, using rustic materials in the local traditional style with beams made of chestnut wood and terra-cotta tiles on the floor which keep the apartments cool and fresh during the hot summers. A modern central heating system makes sure that during the transitional periods our guests are feeling comfortable.

In addition to private parking, on the spacious 3500 square meters garden there is a huge, covered terrace with a pizza oven and a barbecue, as well as another pergola, both well equipped with garden furniture, which can be used by guests at any time.

Casa Lauretana is a friendly, quiet place, where time stands still and you can spend the day outdoors immersing yourself in the intoxicating atmosphere that surrounds you. You will quickly learn the meaning of “la dolce vita“ and might never want to leave. The owner lives on the property and is always available to answer any questions guests might have.

About me

Umbria, Piedmont, Lombardy… and back in Umbria

It was in the 80’s when my love for Italy seriously began. At the time I attended the Università per Stranieri di Perugia and became involved with Umbrian people, their way of life, and this beautiful country, and… fell in love with it all.

Then, in the 90’s I lived near Lago Maggiore, first in Piedmont, then in Lombardy. While raising 3 children with my husband, I enjoyed an interesting and eventful professional life as an interpreter, tourist guide and drama teacher for children at an international school.

When the children started living their own life, in 2016 we moved to Umbria, the heart of Italy. With the purchase of Casa Lauretana, a long-cherished wish came true, and after extensive renovation, I now enjoy sharing my great love for Italy, Umbria and Tuscany with like-minded people, or with all those who have not yet experienced this lovely region.
